Evidence and Empathy Under One Roof in Palo Alto
Where peer-reviewed science and human warmth converge. Our 125 clinicians use research-driven protocols paired with real compassion to treat the full person behind the addiction.
About TSL Rehab
TSL Rehab grew from a faith-based recovery ministry into a fully licensed, research-oriented treatment center in the heart of Silicon Valley. Over 23 years, that founding spirit of community care merged with rigorous clinical science—and the result is a 69-bed Palo Alto campus where motivational enhancement therapy, nutritional psychiatry, and trauma-informed counseling work side by side.
Our 125-person team includes addiction psychiatrists, registered dietitians, and certified counselors who publish in peer-reviewed journals and still sit bedside during detox. More than 20,600 patients have completed our programs, and each one shaped how we practice today.

Research-Backed Protocols
Every clinical decision at TSL Rehab traces back to published outcomes data. Our team reviews emerging addiction medicine literature monthly and integrates findings into active treatment plans.
Whole-Person Assessment
Before writing a single prescription, we evaluate nutrition, sleep architecture, trauma history, and co-occurring mental health conditions to build a plan that addresses every contributing factor.
Dual Diagnosis Integration
Anxiety, depression, or PTSD frequently fuel substance use. Our psychiatrists and therapists collaborate on a single unified plan so nothing falls through the cracks between providers.
Nutritional Psychiatry
Gut-brain science is real. Our registered dietitian and psychiatrist co-design meal plans that support neurochemical balance, reduce cravings, and restore physical health during early recovery.
Motivational Enhancement
We do not lecture; we listen. Motivational interviewing techniques help patients discover their own reasons for change, building intrinsic motivation that outlasts any external pressure.
Lifelong Alumni Network
Graduation is not goodbye. Our alumni community offers monthly gatherings, peer mentoring, and continued access to clinical resources—because sustained recovery needs sustained support.
Treatment Programs
Medical Detox
Our 3–7 day physician-led detox uses real-time biomarker monitoring and FDA-approved medications to manage withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. Nursing staff track vitals continuously so adjustments happen in minutes, not hours.
Residential Treatment
During 30–90 days on our Palo Alto campus, patients attend three daily therapy sessions—group, individual, and a specialty track like equine-assisted therapy or adventure therapy. Chef-prepared meals, a community garden, and a meditation labyrinth round out the clinical-intensive schedule.
Outpatient Program
Our 8–12 week IOP and flexible outpatient tracks let you stay connected to work, family, and Palo Alto life while continuing CBT, DBT, and relapse-prevention skills training. Evening and weekend sessions are available.
Stories of Recovery
“I came in thinking I just had a drinking problem. Within the first week, the psychiatric team identified generalized anxiety disorder that had been running my life since college. Once they treated both the anxiety and the alcohol dependence together, everything shifted. I did not even know I could feel this calm without a drink.”

“TSL Rehab gave me my life back three years ago. Today I volunteer as a peer mentor here every Saturday morning. Sitting across from someone on day two of detox and telling them honestly that it gets better—that is the most meaningful work I have ever done. This place changed the direction of my career and my purpose.”
— Derek Owens, Recovery Peer Specialist
“I was 24 and convinced I could handle fentanyl on my own. My parents found TSL Rehab, and honestly, the science-first approach is what got through to me. They showed me brain scans, explained what the substance was actually doing to my neurons. I needed facts, not just feelings. Now I am two years clean with a career I actually care about.”
